Conceived as a travel diary of Italo Calvino's literary work, the proofs illustrate 14 of the 56 cities imagined by Marco Polo and described to the great emperor Kublai Khan. Each one presents an urban, spatial, and philosophical theme: perception of the city, its thresholds, its time, its signs or absence of signs...
The edition is the translation of drawings made in notebooks between 2020 and 2021, transcribed onto copper by photoengraving and treated by superimposing etching and aquatint, offering a pictorial reappropriation of the initial drawings. The author's texts are transferred to the back of the plate by soft varnish.
